I haven't run into that error before, but we've stayed with 10.6.4 because of odd issues in each new version of SNL. You seem to have found another to add to the pile.

If you'd like to try a minimal approach to see if it behaves any differently, remove the group you created, and create a single user, then add it as an ACE to your file share (or possibly a test share point). You can call it "editors", "allusers", whatever you like. Copy some media to it, then propagate permissions.

Next, mount the share point on a few machines, using the username/password for the new user you created. See if you can read/write several files to the share point.

Basically, you've replaced your group with a single user, that everyone uses to log in. Any files written to your share point, will be accessible by anyone also logged in as that user. This is not an original idea, but we use this concept constantly as a simple way for users to share files on a server, when there isn't a need for more complex permissions. It is dead reliable. See if that helps, and let us know what happens.
