Gaffers tape, don't over think it
Don't over-think it? I guess you mean "gaffers tape is the only thing I've thought of and if you do anything different it means you are thinking about it too much." That's a comment that seems intended to bring a conversation to an immediate dead end. I would think that a forum moderator would want to encourage further discussion and exchange of ideas and experience.
By the way, your suggestion for right angle or left angle firewire connectors is not optimal. For a better configuration you should be using down angle connections. But maybe that's over-thinking it.
