Firestore 100 import problem/mxf converter
by johnsnap on Nov 6, 2007 at 3:32:24 pm

Hi, I own a Firestore 100 and use it regularly. My problem is from a shoot with 1080i24P footage with the Panasonic HVX-200. Typically I edit with Avid Xpress Pro version 5.7.2 on a Mac G5 running OSX version 10.4.9. I also tried importing the footage in Final Cut Pro 5 and that did not work as well.

It seems that after the footage was organized and backed up, the firestore never created a "CONTENTS" folder where the media lives. Instead, the media is in the folders with the long stream of numbers. In this case a folder titled, "20071008-124705-01" has all the MXF files (totaling app. 64GB). And the names of the mxf folders do not follow the pattern of the names in my other experiences with Firestore media files. Here are few samples of the names of the MXF folders...

20071008-124705A01.mxf
20071008-124705B01.mxf
20071008-124705L01.mxf

When I try to import from the main folder holding all my firestore info into the Avid, it tells me there is no media there. Same thing happens when I select the folder with all the mxf files in it. When I try to drag any of the files or folders into the import area in Final Cut, it just doesnt read them.

If Organize P2 was done before mounting the firestore, there would have been a CONTENTS folder. For us not to see a CONTENTS folder, an Organize P2 must not have been performed before removing the footage from the firestore.

We've been told that if there are any options left, if would have to be an "MXF Converter" on the market that would allow the footage to be saved and able to be imported into an NLE. As long as the footage is "MXF", they can not be accepted be any NLE, unless convertered.
I'm not aware of any converter on the market that would do this, but that is not saying that there isn't.

Does anyone know of any MXF Converters that could solve this problem or any other ideas to help us recover our footage. Please help. Thank you.

John
