AU plugins aren't working

Hello, I've been searching the internet high and low for a solution to my problem. I've downloaded a bunch of AU plugins for garageband. Specifically, I have Automat. I put it in my components directory and it isn't showing up in garage band. I'm using os 10.5.6 and garage band 4.1.2. I'm looking under my effects menu and I have zero 3rd party au components listed. What's the deal?
