Well, one difference right off is that GarageBand is easy to use, period. Of course GarageBand has a lot of eMagic/Logic code under its hood, but Apple has done a good job in streamlining the app.
My first introduction to a MIDI program was "MicroLogic Fun" which was a stripped-down and free version (of Logic) that eMagic gave away in COMPUTER MUSIC magazine (I think it later became the product "MicroLogic AV."). It was fun to use, but it sure wasn't "fun" to set up.
So I'd say go/stay with GarageBand (unless you're recording an album for a major recording label and/or editing feature films with intensive sountracks on a regular basis).
