I have had only haphazard success in trying to put my loops anywhere except for the default location which the installer puts them in.

Even when doing the drag and drop of the folder to the instruments library window inside Garageband that causes them to be added to and updates the available instruments index, it sometimes causes my "availables" to only show the ones in the new location -- other times, they will "update" the list and show those in both locations.

If you find a way that works consistently, I'd love to hear about it.
