G-Speed eS on MediaComposer Adrenaline and HP XW8200 / Timeouts with G-Speed Configuration Utlity running
by Bart Delva on Oct 16, 2009 at 8:17:13 am

All,

I am trying to install a G-Speed eS on a HP workstation XW8200 with Avid MediaComposer Adrenaline installed.

This workstation is also Fibre attached to a Unity (v4.1.6 with a Atto FC 41XS installed in slot 5). The Adrenaline BoB is connected to the on-board Firewire. The workstation has 3GB of RAM installed, and running 2.8.3 of MC. We have installed the G-Speed controller card in the only available PCIe slot (which is slot 4).

I downloaded the latest driver and installed them. Flashed the firmware of the card (version rr231xpm.22c) driver version (DriverVer=05/05/2008, 1.0.8.505). Everything is correctly installed (except that Windows finds a SCSI processor device where there is no driver available). I have initialized the 4 disks as 2 RAID 5 arrays, and did a background initialization.

When the initialization is running the MediaComposer application is behaving very strange. One moment it works fine another moment I get timeout errors. If I stop the G-Speed service, it seems that MediaComposer keeps running without a problem, both on the G-Speed disks as on Unity workspaces. When I start the service again the problems are back again.

Would this problem be related to background initialization ? Or to this service itself ?

Do I really need to have this service running on the PC. Ok, without the service the initialization stops, but can I just disable the service when the initialization is done ?

Initialization will take about 2 days, so will keep he forum posted. If somebody has had same experience .. Please share !

Thanks,
