G-Tech Q Issues
by Jennifer Leslie on Jun 16, 2009 at 11:37:23 pm

I recently bought a 1TB G-Tech Q drive. It's been working great up until recently, it decided to act funny. First, it wouldn't come out of sleep mode and/or the fan would be running at full speed until I unmounted it. Second, if I was working off of the drive (in FCP or DVDSP or even Word for that matter), I couldn't save anything and I get the spinning beach ball of death. I contacted G-Tech right away with my issues, and they want me to send the drive in for review/repair. 2 weeks though! I have a project deadline in 2 weeks! So, I reformatted the drive and that issue seems to be solved. But now... the issue I am having is with permissions.

I store files on several drives in my other computer (which is a PC running Ubuntu). I cannot drag my work files onto the G-Tech because it is "READ ONLY". I brought it back to my mac, changed the permissions to READ-WRITE for everyone, and tried again with no luck. How can I get my G-Tech to not be READ ONLY on my PC? I need to get my files on here! I've spent all day on this only to get no where. To add to this, after I change my permissions on the G-Tech it won't let me eject it! (I work on a Macbook and G5.) Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
