Robin,
I find that people need structure, and as an editor, you need to show that you are king (or queen) of structure, and can unmuddy the directorial waters when needed.
Yes, this reel is creatively edited, but does not show mastery of any one form, or much depth.
for example, there is only 1 performance edited...
You won't be able to explain it away, so my approach would be to group your work into separate sections: live performance editing, reality editing, effects - use inter-titles - show off some graphics work-- never leave a question mark if you can avoid it... get better looking footage also, you will be judged by the production value as well as the cutting (I know its not fair, but that's the way it goes) and try never to repeat shots (the rainy window).-- and spend a week or so developing some really cool effects sequences, not just trippy colors/ color correction and out of the box effects.
good luck. (sorry if I'm too harsh, but it takes that some time to establish yourself-- keep at it!)
