Re: DVDit Pro6 - 16:9 Menus, & display questions.

First part

When you say you tested this, on what kind of display and DVD hardware setting did you test this on? Was the DVD player hardware set to 16:9, and is the TV a 16:9 TV?

Second part

You should be able to test the footage you have created in 16:9. By declaring the track in DVDit that it is a 16:9 track, it should automatically do a conversion to Letterbox 4:3 in a 4:3 display, and play in 16:9 in a 16:9 display. The DVD player itself should do this.

With menus, I have had to program multiple sets of menus, and check the system parameter register memory for the DVD hardware settings, then call the appropriate menu, each of which are designed for the appropriate aspect ratio. Otherwise, a 16:9 menu will stretch if played on a 4:3 display.

What you might try, is to create 4:3 menus, and use a track that is 16:9. The menu will appear as 4:3 on a normal TV, and the track should be compatible with 4:3 letterbox. When the same DVD is played on a 16:9 display, the menu should appear in the center of the 16:9 display, but the track should be full screen.

If you had access to the registers, You could check the register for hardware aspect ratio settings, then load the appropriate menu, and leave the track as native 16:9, and let the DVD player do a conversion to 4:3 Letterbox if played on that sort of a TV. If you have a few menus, it's not a bad way to go.
