Motion 3 - Tabs wont select

I hope a learned person among you can help me

Im finally venturing out of FCP 6 and into the rest of the Studio and ive run into a strange problem with Motion that has stopped me from doing anything

The Add Behaviour and Add Filter buttons, and therefore the drop downs are not selecting. When an object, either a drawn object or a video file is selected they 'wake up' from the grayed out state whgen nothing is selected, yet when i click on them, or hold a click on them, or hover over them, nothing happens. Does anyone know why??

Also, the File Browser, Library and Inspector buttons also do not work, as in bring up their selected panes. They also do not work when selected in the window drop down from the top bar. Has anyone else encountered this problem?

This is extremely frustating and any help would be appreciated
