It's not just singing cats

I've been immersing myself in new media for about two years now trying to chart the waters. One of the things I've learned is that, distribution technology does not equal content. We've been so conditioned to talk about "TV shows," "movies," "vinyl records," that we don't realize that the content isn't the delivery technology anymore.

YouTube isn't just stupid viral videos. It's everything, including:

...and I found all those in just a few minutes. And YouTube is only one small corner of the internet.

"New Media" isn't just a new kind of media. It's what all media is becoming. I've been doing professional video for about 25 years and what's happening right now is changing everything. It's fascinating and exciting and scary and everything else that comes with massive change. The best place I know to meet people and discover hard practical information about all these changes is at the New Media Expo. The next one is in August in Las Vegas. It's a much more valuable conference than NAB these days. Come on down and spend a few days mixing with people who think about these crazy new things all day long. I'd love to see some COW folk there.
