Please hlp - compression question
by Ernesto Marani on Aug 23, 2009 at 8:34:09 pm

Hi everybody,

Can you please help me with the following:

I edit the audio for a speaker that gives conferences every week, with Adobe Audition 1.5. I was requested to deliver an edited file with the same level across the track.

I applied Dynamic Processing as follows:
2:1 compress above -18db
1:1 flat below -18db
Output compensation gain: 0 db

Gain Processor:
Output gain: 0 db
Attack: 0 ms
Release: 40 ms
Joint channels marked

Level Detector
Input gain: 0 db
Attack time: 1 ms
Release time: 300 ms
Peak marked

Lookahead time: 2 ms

Band limiting:
low cutoff: 0 hz
high: 24000 hz

I have many newbie questions, and I thank you in advance if you can please help me with them: After applying compression, does it mean that now the level is the same across the wave? How do you measure that the level is the same? Is there any tool for determining to what extent the level is/is not the same across the track?
How do I correct all the "visual imperfections" left on the wave after I compressed ?
I attach pictures of the original raw recording and another one after the compression.

Thank you very very much for all your help and patience!
Ernesto
