Newbie with major dropout problem in Audition 3

Hi Guys.
I've been using Audition in it's various forms for years, and recently downloaded the trial of version 3.
I'm impressed. I uninstalled version 2- I found some aspects of it were no longer there that i liked to use but 3 is different.
Anyway the first session I've put in has some 25 tracks. In vs 1.5 it's a bit slow, but 3 renders it unlistenable to (let alone record!).
I have 768 MB of RAM in this particular pc- not great, i know, and 2GHz processor.
I have 2 HDD folders assigned to temp folders (not C drive) with plenty of space each.
Cache is on 32MB. I have ASIO drivers, on an Audigy platinum EX 2 card set at 768 samples Buffer size and 16 samples latency.
Can someone please help me sort out the best set up so I can actually use the damned thing?
thanks.
izzie.
