I agree since the tapes before and after show no such problem. And the problem with affected tapes (same batch?) is consistent--showing up in the last 20 inutes. Banding is usually a sign of dirty or worn heads in interlaced recording but not in this case, I don't think.
I know some non-Sony resources in L.A. I'm sure they exist in London as well.
