properly deinterlace 1080i60
by Joe Bender on Nov 19, 2009 at 12:00:33 am

Hi all,

I am working on a film shot in HDV 1080p24 on my canon XH-A1, captured in HDV (in FCP) and edited in ProRes 422 HQ. I've just received some additional footage that I want to incorporate, shot on the same camera but in 1080i60. All my attempts to deinterlace/transcode it so far (ranging from just dropping it into a 24p timeline to outputting it as 24p ProRes 422 HQ in Compressor at highest settings) have led to significant stutter. Is there a better way? I read that the CinemaTools Reverse Telecine function might work better, but when I try to run it it says "One or more media files in your selection could not be processed" and "Unable to find any clips with 29.97 FPS to process." Any thoughts? Would it be possible to recapture from tape directly to 24p (I believe the footage was shot in 60i, so I suspect the answer is no)?

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Joe
