video switcher
by Craig Alan on Oct 25, 2009 at 6:15:50 am

Need help.
I'm putting in a funding request and would like to include a video switcher. We'll be using Sony z7u-s and Canon HV30/40-s. HDV.
I have my eyes on the Panasonic AV-HS400A Compact Live Multi-Format SD/HD-SDI Switcher.
But I am open to other suggestions. What I need is a complete list of needed items.
This is for a school and the funding comes once a year and you’re not given a set budget. You put in the request and the list needs to be complete or it’s wait till next year.
This is not high-end work but I would like to be able to teach multicam switching and green screen.
I like the fact that the Panasonic has the ability to use a single monitor which would display multi-views.
I looked into using a high end consumer type TV as monitor and was told I'd need the following list for a three cam shoot using the older model AV-HS400N:
AV-HS04M4 Panasonic AV-HS04M4 Analog Component Output Board
HA5 AJA HA5 HDMI to SD/HD-SDI Video and Audio Converter
Three (3) BB-C-100HR Comprehensive BNC Male to BNC Male Cable - 100'
Three (3) X3V-HDMI6 Comprehensive X3V Series HDMI Male to HDMI Male Cable - 6'.
Three (3) BB-C-25HR Comprehensive BNC Male to BNC Male Cable - 25'
This was assuming 3 sony z7u-s and a
Panasonic TC-37LZ85 Widescreen 37" VIERA LCD TV 1080p.

What if I could afford the BT-LH1760W 17" Widescreen HD/SD LCD Video Monitor?
What would then make the pieces work together?
I assume I could use this monitor for color correcting in post as well.

Again, other product lists welcome as well.

A cheaper solution that would meet these needs would be great as well.

Thanks. If there is a different forum that is better suited for this please let me know, Or a site that gives a good overview. Done some in SD but that was a lot cheaper and seemingly less complex.
