Gawd, how marketing has made this message messed up;
"I chose H.264 because I've read it has more quality than Mpeg"

h.264 *is* MPEG. It's MPEG 4, based on the fundamentals of MPEG 2, it's older and significantly more mature brother.

AVCHD, whose roots are in h.264 has some better efficiency at higher bitrates than MPEG2, this is true. It also offers some challenges.
On BD, you will often see better motion and color in MPEG 2, but you can't fit nearly as much media on the disc as you can using AVC.

I've found it odd that Adobe labels High Profile as "High Profile" but calls "Main Profile" 4.1. It confuses a lot of people. Choose a common nomenclature.
Anyway...High Profile is better in general terms, but compatitiblity may be an issue with older players.
