If you don't have the original tapes then you would be better off editing all the way with Final Cut. If this isn't a real option I would edit a rough cut in Final Cut using the native HDV easy setup and if this is a newer 6.0.2 FC Version or newer I would set the sequence to render as Pro Rez, I would suggest you assemble it on this sequence with long handles then lay this off to digibeta using a Kona or Black Magic card. Then re-digitize to Avid.
