I had a project where I did it with no problems. I put :10 bars at the end of each recording and noted the timecode for each format change on the tape box. When it came time to capture I treated the change in format as a separate tape ie 10a, 10b etc. I do agree with Douglas, that tape is inexpensive so you really don't have to do it. I was doing some pickups at the same location in both HD and SD. It was just a matter of convenience for me.
