Record HDV direct to Computer

I posted this same question in the FCP forum. I'll try to keep to the facts.
- A client wants to shoot an open for his site that looks like www.liveonpage.com
- Called the reps there, they want the file recorded to a hard drive cam in 1080i HDV tape compresses video too much.
- I have the Sony HDR-FX1 and as mentioned I use FCP 5.4
- Tested out the video by recording directly to imac G5 through firewire in the FCP preset HDV 1080i 60
- Plays back fine in the viewer, but drag in time line and export the audio is off by about 3 sec and the video in a sense stutters in half view.
Anyone ever try a video capture live to computer and have it work? I also get a error when playing on the time line saying dropped frames.

Any help would be very appreciated!
