HVR Slo Mo-FCP Set Up

The HVR "Slo Mo" recording is confusing.
The manual glazes over it.

any help?

It records a series of stills on a "reduced frame" and up then up res to HD?

What FCP set up. SD DV

Thanks. Its fun, big quality degradation. But affordable.
