HDV sucks on Mac's because of the conforming times. You should work in DVCPRO HD but you're gonna have huge files.

Can you capture HDV as DV thru camcorder downconversion, edit in DV, make your DVD's, then recapture the timeline in HDV for the final product?

Have you looked into Lumiere HD?
