TV for viewing HDV
by Charlie Steiner on Aug 22, 2007 at 9:42:33 pm

I'm looking for a flat screen for a living room, away from the editing computer, for (1)viewing 1080i HDV and for (2)looking at SD DVD's and also for (3)displaying a laptop from a VGA connection. so far the best quality HDV I've been able to get is playing an m2t file from my editing computer onto a 24" computer monitor (Dell). this looks better than playing an HDV tape of the same thing via component into the same monitor.

but looking for a TV I was really disappointed - took the camcorder to a store and played via component into a number of current LCD's, both 720p and 1080p, and they all showed obvious artifacting. would HDV look better played from a computer than from tape? how about deinterlacing - would that help?

this program I've been testing was projected in a commercial theater with a huge screen and looked stunning - I'm hoping to be able to get a decent picture on a much smaller scale (like 40 inches or so).
