I've spent the last few years on a different forum, but occasionally check the COW. Obviously, this thread caught my eye.
A few days ago -- I posted that I was getting really tired of knocking down the steady stream of misinformation posted about HDV. I could understand it four years ago when the JVC HD1 was the only game in town. But, now?!?
Yes, it's bad on the HDV sites, but it's even worse when you near Avid folks. And, when you hear the claims made at public meetings -- you wonder how can such talented and very well paid professionals mouth such pure nonsense. I may kill the next person who says "HDV can be edited, but only if transferred to another format." That wasn't even true of Hi8, but I heard it a lot in the good old days. Then the same mantra came from the same folks about DV.
I watch a Monster Garage episode that was shot half with a Z1 and half with a Varicam. Yes, they were different. But, one was not better -- at least at home on a 50-in HDTV.
It is certainly true that Pana always delivers a rant on long-GOP "problems." But, I suspect this can't be laid at their feet.
I'm really not sure what motivates folks to seemingly refuse to learn about HDV. Leaving likely won't change anything for the better, but you may feel better. :)
