IINM, none of those explanations are correct for the Sony's modes. Those are all for how the DVX/XL2/HVX etc. record 24p or 24pA, but Sony is doing something different. Apparently the Sony V1 is always recording 2:3 pulldown, the difference has to do with how it handles the end of a recording. In one mode it stops recording when you're done recording, in the other mode I believe it pads out the recording to finish a full GOP or something like that.
