I think youre missing the point Richard. He's capturing from the analog YUV outputs of the camera which are pre-compression, before the image goes to tape and gets turned into HDV. I dont know jack about PCs anymore and work with FCP, but the main idea here is getting the image quality the camera is capable of outputting BEFORE it gets compressed into HDV.
Capturing from FireWire will ONLY give you an HDV compressed version, which is okay too, if thats what you want.
