Sony DSR400 DV camera or the Canon XL-H1 HDV

if you could choose between the Sony DSR400 DV camera or the Canon XL-H1 HDV which would you pick? I recently looked at both while in B&H Photo and side by side I like the Sony except for the fact that it doesn't offer auto focus. There images look comparable (I think the sony was better) but the whole HDV compression decompression really concerns me. Any thoughts the whole DV/HDV issue?
