I would recommend the Convergent Designs HD-Connect.
This will allow you to dub with matching TC.
Using the component out of the camera or deck will not give you matching TC (if this is important).
We're neck deep in HDV production and have tested this box to dub to HDCAM and downconvert to Digibeta.
Both work like a champ!
Currently, we're using the box to downconvert HDV to SD, using the DVCPro 50 codec throught a Black Magic card into FCP-HD. The only frustration I have is the Sony deck is terribly slow to respond....painfully slow. It's the deck/camera's mechanics not the Convergent box.
We have tested it (Convergent box) with our Symphony and DS. Neither could control the Sony deck. Passing video is not an issue...it works just like a tape deck (even through our router).
There is a firmware update that is available that may fix this. We flashed the box, but it messed caused problems with FCP batch capture, so we reved back.
Just a suggestion....
BTW....be afraid of the JVC 720 brand of HDV. It's not supported as well as Sony's 1080i.
