John,

[John Henley] "I'll speak with our engineers about this..."

Do get back to us about this. They must be doing something similar to Cineform along with the neatest trick I've seen in a long time from an NLE. I went to my old friend Larry Sherwood's Axio demo at Lyn Norstad's digs in Chicago. Larry had some green screen Sony Z1 HDV footage that he'd shot outside against a fabric background that was as garish as any chroma key footage I've ever seen. The screen was chock full of folds, shadows, lit by direct, harsh sunlight with no bounce, plus it was undulating in the breeze. Larry said that after looking at the footage, he almost didn't even capture it to try in Axio. When he did, he hit the one button chroma keyer and then said, "Oh, my God." The key was almost perfect, needing only a slight softening of the key edge to tweak it, and on HDV no less, and all real time. He immediately went to e-bay and put his copy of Ultra Magic up for resale. BTW, Larry initially showed us this composite without identifying it as green screen and no one was the wiser, until he showed us the same footage against 5 different backgrounds.

So..., your engineers must be up to somethin', because sure as Dickens, the software programmers are. The chroma keying, color matching, and primary and secondary color correction are second to none, IMO, and all real time at finish quality, even with HDV. Zowee!
