Re: FCP - HDV codec settings VS Apple intermediate codec

I'm still waiting for my review copy of FCP 5.

First, remember 1080 requires 2X more power than 720p30.

Second, image quality can degrade as needed to keep frame rate correct.

Third, the frame rate can degrade as needed. But an attempt is made to keep smooth play back.

In short, depending on how you set playback quality, Apple claims it will prioritize frame-rate.

Text is typically a "no-load" function. On the Canopus, CC is a big load. On Vegas CC is a light load. As I remember, CC is a light load with FCP.

So it is the number of streams that count. But HDV has the same disk load as DV -- thus it it is the speed of Apple's MPEG-2 decoder that is the biggest load factor over DV.
