I'm new to creative cow, and I appreciate the community like vibe it provides. Perhaps this is a bizarre question to ask (in this place); but I'm curious to hear from established web-development professionals, about the realities of their loosely-knit industry.

I'm considering this field as a professional, but aren't sure of all it entails. Could someone please consider privately mentoring me ?
