agreed - for this kind of workflow it would be best to have a modifier key, instead of a switch ...
i personally would even want to have "slide" mode (lock on) when clicking in the middle of a clip (double arrow) - i guess i have never used this "autotrimming of 2 cuts", which it is, when lock off ...
but maybe thats just me -
in all, although trimming in smoke is fine & all options are available (pretty much), it could need 1 or 2 finetunings.
