Hey Tim! How are you?
XML's are really useful only if the Smoke artist is familiar with working with XML's, AND the XML is going to give you information that a regular EDL wouldn't give you.
But, I think you have to use automatic duck to get from Avid into FCP. I've never tried it, but in theory it should work.
