having problems outputting to dvd
by Roli Rivelino on Oct 13, 2009 at 11:03:33 pm

I've been following the lynda tutorials for building a dvd project and I thought everything was going to plan, but I keep getting the same error message when I finally go to burn.

My workflow has been as follows:

export from compressor using mpeg-2 compression (150 minutes)
export audio from compressor using quicktime audio compression

to dvd studio pro
new project
save as
import video and audio assets
add video and audio to track one
rename menu 1
add button to menu 1
add chapters to timeline (19 in all)

build in build folder on spare drive
check build in apple dvd (build ok)
burn & format
set to PAL 12cm
burn.

The first part seems to go well in the log, but then I get the following warnings,

Warning: the file 'NAME.layout' found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.

Warning: The file 'VOB_DATALAY' found in the VIDEO_TS or HVDVD_TS folder will not be included in the final disc.

Then it starts formating, executes a few more instructions and then gives me a final warning and pops my disc out.

error: The recording device reported the media error. Unkown device error. (0x73, 0x03)
The recording device reported the media error. Unkown device error. (0x73, 0x03)

I should point out that when I first did it I took time and added two buttons and all the chapter extensions, but kept getting unconnected stuff that I didn't really understand when I checked my connections.

So I decided to build again, as all I really need is a simple okish quality dvd full of my unedited rushes.

I know I should be using Roxio for the final burn, but as a small, newbie independent, I can't quite yet afford it, so I'm trying to do the whole thing from DVDSpro.

Your help will greatly be apreciated as I have to hand this in tomorrow and am at my witts end!
