I juat want to confirm that if you play your compressed video in Quicktime Player it shows up correctly? If the first part is showing up correctly it could be a compression problem rather than a DVD SP one. If you were using CBR when compressing, then your file size will still be large even if you are compressing black.

Was the original clip in Compressor a self-contained or by-reference Quicktime movie?
