frankly I would never use a computer with any software any platform, Mac or Pc for a major screening. And you are correct the WMP is the worst of the worst combos. Sounds like a lazy projectionist.

A scratch cannot effect the audio only, it would freeze or glitch the playback.

Most likely this is a buffering problem, bitrate may have spiked and the play dropped the decoding process of the audio (just guessing here. VBR are know to spike and the 90 min max is 7.7 which is pushing the safety zone on DVD-Rs. I would rather encode a CBR at 6.2, but the max bitrate should not go over 7 when using a DVD-R.

I would have been pretty pissed at the not trying. I would have offered to go buy a DVD player and install it. It is amazing how people can walk away from a challenge when they have nothing at stake.
