Hi Rebecca

You can't do this internally in DVD-SP (well not as far as I know). The only way for this to be created is to use a subtitler software that can create an STL which refers to graphics files and brings them in to DVD-SP at the appropriate timecode. The graphic file would then have the subtitle text and the box surround.

Belle Nuit subtitler can do this - but costs. If you have access to a PC there is Subtitle Workshop - which is free - but as never played with it not sure if it can do the same thing.

Why does it need to have the shaded/black box surround? I don't think I've ever seen a DVD with subtitles presented this way (that's not to say it's wrong - just seems unnecessary... I know TV companies in the Uk used to do it with a grey see through box surround but don't think they do that either anymore)

With a good outline round your subs that should be enough to lift it away from any problematic white elements in your movie...

Good luck

Steve
