My burner burns coasters now

Hello.

I have a question.

So My burner was always burning fine. No problems. Then one day I saw a pack of 50 DVDS FOR $3 IN CIRCUIT CITY... they're nexxtech... I know that they are garbage but I use them for unimportant stuff that I only need on a dvd temporarily.

HOWEVER...

I've burn a few with nexxtech dvds and now dvd studio pro can't burn a working dvd... neither can idvd... and I went back to using my god dvds...

Can a bad dvd-r really hurt my burner in this way?

And if so.... What are my options in terms of solutions are there cleaners out there or anything?
