Scritping Subtitle Buttons to show selection status

I want to have 3 buttons on my main DVD menu to control the status of the subtitles: English, French, Off. I've got the buttons working fine, but I want to add an underline to whichever one is selected, so that the viewer can see what subtitles will play when they hit play.
I gather I need to write a script to do that, so question 1 is how do I script this.
Question 2 is how do I generate an underline or similar marker separate from the button highlight.
I'm still on DVD Studio Pro 3, btw, with a 24p 16:9 movie. Bonus question: what font should I use for the subtitles?
Thanks!
