Play button out of a loop clip

I have a client that uses one of those foot pedal controllers to advance a dvd. They told us that the foot pedal is the equivalent to the Play button on a remote control.
We created markers and stories so that the track paused along the way and when they pushed the foot pedal it continued and so on. All is fine there.
Problem is they have a walkin clip that they want to loop. I tried putting it in a menu and it loops alright, but the play button does nothing to advance it even though i am sitting on a button. The remote control shows a pause in DVD Player. Enter would work, but the foot pedal is the play button.
I tried making the button the asset, but same problem.
If I make a new track and have it loop I have the same problem with the Play button.
So, here's the challenge. Have a looping clip and when the Play button is clicked, it advances to the next story.
Any ideas? A creative script idea?
