mono or stereo audio

When creating a DVD from a FCP file (exported from a 1080i DVCPRO HD timeline) why is there only 1 channel of audio when it comes into DVD studio Pro? Does that mean it is only 1 channel mono? or is it still stereo... when I open it up again in Final Cut Pro it is stereo... I recently had a client say the audio on a cd we made was mono... hmmm
