Encoding Quality Issues

Greetings from Rainy England,
I'm new to DVD Studio Pro - I'm trying to use it to make very quick DVDs with ultra basic menus to show short clips to my clients.
So I open a new project, import a couple of music video edits as Assets (DV25 quality QT movies), drag them both onto the menu pane as buttons linking to the tracks and hey presto I've programmed a very basic DVD.
However, the picture quality is terrible.
What am I doing wrong? I've increased the encode settings of the clips to max 8mbps min 6mbps, and that improves things a bit, but it's still nowhere near as good as dropping them into iDVD.
I guess I must be missing something.
Anyone have any ideas? I would be most grateful for some advice on this issue.
Many thanks,
Steve.
