It all depends on the burner and the media itself. I use Plextor and Taiyo Yuden at 8x all the time and never had problems. Of course, I play it safe when burning master DVD-Video, using 4x, but I make most of my masters using DDP on DVD-R at 8x. TY Grade A pass tests at speeds higher than 8x, TY Value pass tests 8x and less.
