My understanding is you cannot set SPRMs from a disk. But you can read the SPRM values and move them to GPRMs and script accordingly.
There may be other and possibly beter ways to do this but here is my thinking.
The binary vales of bit 10 and 11 are 1024 and 2048. (page 499 in the DVDSP 4 manual has a diagram.) 16:9 has both bits set to 1 or a combined value of 3072. I divided by 1024 to get a simple value-in this case 3. Now the GPRM register that I called Aspect check has a value of 3 if the SPRM 14 is set to 16:9.
Since 4:3, Not Specified, and Reserved can't equal 3072 then dividing by 1024 will always give a value of less than 3 if the player is set to anything but 16:9. I could of said if Aspect check = 0 then play the 4:3 version but since it works on the set top I didn't think it was necessary.
Maybe the software players default to not specified or reserved but have different values based on who the software designers are.
