Creating a menu navigate cursor - how to ?

I want to create a custom icon to navigate in the menu.
i.e. say a hand that moves between the buttons, and when it's on a button the button's color changes.
I guess the cursor cant really be ON the button... but you get my idea. (next to it is good enough)


this may be trivial but I looked in the manual (under "cursor" "poiter") and and this forum,
and couldn't figure this out..
