Matte Wipes in Apple Shake

I'm putting together an edit for short shot on DV. In the short I need to create a series of Matte wipes. The scene takes place in a church so we shot several left to right dolly shots of pillars and pews whipping past the camera. I'm editing on Final Cut Pro, however the pillar in this church has sharp angles on it and I can't use a 4 or 8 point matte. So my questions: is it over kill to roto this in Shake? And how would I do this? Or would it be better and easier to use after effects? (Which I haven't really used.)
