hi,

It sounds like a job for Switchmatte. under Layers, attach the image node to the first input of switchmatte and the alpha to the second. Then attach an over node after the switchmatte and attach your background to the second input of the over node.

After this attach a fileout node and when you give it a file name, make sure to add the .mov extension and set the quicktime codec to what you need.

You shouldn't have any noodles going to side inputs (these mask and effect)
