Just to give you you another point of view:
IMHO shake is now much much to cheap... with this price drop they destroy the most serious postproduction business models.
At our facility we just bought 2 new licences before the price drops down... So we just burned 4k in money...
But the worse thing is that now every "idiot" with an imac could call himself a shake artist. How should you explain your customer the price per hour relation? With every new job you has to fight with your customer about the budgets. And every customer will tell you: "shake is so cheap, so you can drop your prices, too..." Because most costumer see only one part of the costs, they don't see the fibre channel networkd, the digibetas, the class 1 monitor, etc. ... It is much easier to talk about money when the product you are working with is high price.
Sometimes a product has to be expensive to devide the professionals from the consumer. So in my eyes it would be problaby better to sell shake at 5K than at 0.5k.
And there is the part of the quality. If many untrained "shake operators" will now do bad work, shake gets a bad reputation, the customer, who has ones made bad experiences with a product don't want to work with it again. This why discreet has such a good reputation with flint flame inferno. Not only because the workstations are soooooo good, but the most operator are very well educated...
And that is my strong belive they will not sell many more copies of it, because shake in deep is too difficult for most hobby compositors.
I already hear the people at the support hotline "How can I get my footage in ..." "Why undo don't work..." apple will cut itself with this step.
Other professionals I talked to, think the same way, and when the professional are gone, Shake die ...
My two cents,
Sven
