The MV5108 Host card needs an electrical x8 slot to operate properly. If you only have an x4 slot available, you may need to toggle a Dip Switch position inside the MV5108 to assure stability and force negotiation. The switch will be labeled SW3 on the OSS Target Card, which is all labeled clearly in there. You will need to toggle position #1.

The actual RC5152-08 RAIDcore card inside the 5108 will work in an x4 slot, but the OSS Extension Kit requires an x8 slot, but can be configured to force to x4.

Your Operating System RAID1 disk configuration will have NOTHING to do with, or impact the 5108 operation. Completely isolated.
